UK Ministry of Defense: 'UFO monitored Home Secretary'
Several witnesses reported seeing a UFO over the then Home Secretary Michael Howard's home in the run-up to the 1997 election, it's been revealed.
The large triangular craft, twice the size of a jumbo jet, was seen hovering 1,000ft above the house near Folkestone, Kent, according to Ministry of Defence files.
The spacecraft had lights around its edge, a giant spotlight at the front, a disc attached to its back and could be heard 'humming' in the night skies, observers said.
They claimed it had homed in on Mr Howard's house and appeared to have been monitoring him for some time.
Among the witnesses quoted was Sophie Wadleigh, 25, from Hythe, who said: "It was so peculiar, it all felt really odd and I heard this humming noise."
The revelation was among hundreds of close encounters described in previously top-secret files released by the National Archives.
The 6,000 pages of material, spanning from 1994 to 2000, included a claim from a policeman that he'd spotted a UFO hovering over Chelsea's Stamford Bridge ground in March 1999.
They also include a reported 'near miss' between a Boeing 737 jet approaching Manchester Airport and a UFO, which was investigated by the Civil Aviation Authority.
The pilots of British Airways flight 5061 reported the incident as they flew over the Pennines on route from Milan on January 6 1995.
Manchester Air Traffic Control recorded no known traffic in the vicinity on radar.
