Climate change is happening on a generational time period. The warming we are feeling now is mostly due to the initial industrial revolution. The effects of modern carbon emissions wont be felt of another 50-200 years. Sea Ice, as a guestimate, would only last 20-30 years tops. Beyond that, the climate will simply rebound to it's original heating rate.
Oh, and another thing. The currents (specifically the gulf stream) are responsible for our particularly warm winters for our latitude. Look at Canada and Russia on the same latitude and you will find -20 degree weather with 3 ft of snow. Currents = good, for us at least!

The warming we are feeling now is no warming at all. The climate has not warmed since the mid-nineties.
I am well aware of the effect of the Gulf stream on northern Europe's climate. The point I was making is that if the southern hemisphere sees enough ice in the ocean to affect global ocean currents, then that would include the gulf stream, possibly weakening it.
That would set off a cooling in the northern hemisphere, particularly in Europe, which in turn would affect global temperatures setting off a cooling trend thus increasing polar ice… on so the cycle goes on.
This is not unprecedented, witness the Little Ice Age which occurred between the sixteen and nineteen hundreds, which coincidentally enough followed on from a period of warming, the Medieval Warm Period.
The same happened in Roman times and also in Minoan times.
It is the planet's natural warming/cooling cycle. Unfortunately this has been hijacked by 'green' extremists who wish to impose their dogma on us.
